Two years ago today was a very special day…
One of the most beautiful people I know had a special birthday. On the same day she married her equally beautiful soulmate.
(Note: I don’t use the word beautiful lightly or just in it’s aesthetic sense. The couple in question radiate beauty inside and out, just ask anyone who knows them)
So far this sounds like a pretty cute combined birthday / wedding story which is always good, but what made this day so special that I’m writing a blog post about it two years later?
Well this was an alternative kind of surprise party… The surprise was on the guests!
On the 19th of March 2011, Emma Case turned 30 and organised a birthday party. Nothing unusual there… Friends, family & work contacts gathered to party hard at the 50′s prom themed celebration. Emma had based the look for the party on the ‘Enchantment Under The Sea’ dance from the film Back to the Future. It all looked pretty darn cool as you would expect from Emma who is an award winning alternative style wedding photographer.
Emma asked me to bake her birthday cake, I couldn’t have been happier to oblige. What I didn’t realise then this was going to be a cake with a split personality! Emma was forced to spill the beans that all the guests were being invited to her birthday party but what they didn’t know was that earlier in the day she would be marrying her gorgeous boy Petey Pete! Oh my goodness I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to be in on this amazing secret, I could have burst with excitement and anticipation for the thrill of the big reveal!
Finally when the time came, the birthday party which had been in full swing suddenly switched to a magical wedding ceremony complete with speeches! A shocked crowd parted to create a make shift aisle which Emma and her dad walked down to meet her groom. She looked incredible having changed secretly back into her wedding dress. There was not a dry eye in the house!
I cannot do this tail justice so I urge you to read the full story posted here by Kat of Rock n Roll Bride just after the wedding.
I made the cake & the other sweet treats too, today seemed the perfect day to share the images here.
I loved every moment of this wedding. Happy Birthday Emma & Happy Anniversary Mr & Mrs Smyth – Here’s to many more x
